I hear some people say that soy is good for you,
and some say it's bad... What's the story?
I will assume that you are looking at this from the perspective of phytoestrogens. Phytoestrogens are plant compounds that mimic that activity of the estrogens produced by the human body. The people that say this is bad are concerned that the additional “pseudo-estrogens” will contribute to estrogen-fed cancerous lesions. The people that say that the soy is good note that the phytoestrogens bind to estrogen receptor sites, thus preventing the more potent and harmful human-made estrogens from binding. The phytoestrogens actually become protective from this viewpoint. What is the right way to view this? Unfortunately, we do not have all knowledge and research is incomplete. At this point in my knowledge, experience, and observation, I say that the soy is good for us. The phytoestrogens are protective, and I believe they will help reduce our chance of estrogen-fed cancers. Please go to Current Health Trends and read the more lengthy article that I have written on soy.
